Though a small town but due to its picturesque landscape and natural beauty Chenani has lot many places to visit. The small town of Chenani is saved from the pollution and disturbances from outside world and hence can be seen as beauty at its best.The simplicity is seen in every aspect of the small town and has lot many tourist places to offer for traveler's.Chenani is easily accessible through rail and road and there are major connecting flights till Jammu which make the journey more smooth and comfortable.The sight of hills as long you see through your eyes is very enchanting in its own way. Since Jammu is regarded as town of temples so we begin with religious places in Chenani followed by the other tourist spots.

Sudh Mahadev Temple

The sudh mahadev temple has a beauty of its own. The temple is famous for the story of Sudheet, and lord Shiva.the temple has a trident of lord Shiva in its vicinity along with a mace of Bheema.It is believed to be as ancient or old in its existence as the story of Mahabharata. People come to this sacred temple to worship the Shiva-linga located in the temple premises. The temple is also thronged by the people during the three day fair which is held every year.

Jalandhara Mata Mandir

This is a very old  temple in the premises of the Laddan Fort which was built by the Rajput rulers. This temple is situated outside walls of Laddan fort to the east side. The ancient temple is specially known for being built in completely of carved stone. The sculpture and the carving stone is very exquisite. The
temple is west faced and has idol of Jalandara Mata in it.

Mata Jalandara was believed to be the kuldevi of the kings of Chenani. The temple was built by the earlier rulers who came to Chenani. The temple has 2 stone pillars near the front gate and 3 god idols are affixed in the temple on front face above the door. There are immensely beautiful carvings and designs on all sides of the temple showing love of the kings for religion and devotion. Due to improper maintenance the temple however is not in a grand position but it surely is one place which takes us to the historical background of Chenani.

Laddan Fort

King Dayal Chand built 2 forts during his reign. In 1820 the forts of Shivgarh and Laddan Fort were built under his guidance. These forts were mainly built to act as safeguard for the kings and the royal families during difficult times. One of the fort which is located in the jagir of Chenani is the Laddan Fort. The Laddan Fort is an L shaped fort built on the hillock,across the river Tawi. The road which leads to the village Kaira passes through the fort.the walls of the fort are built of chiseled stones on its outer surfaces as compared to the inner walls which were made of normal stones. Earlier a water reservoir was present in the fort which has now reduced to shambles. There were separate chambers for commandos,officers and soldiers in the fort.

Tawi Pul

The river Tawi is the main river of the region and a pul or a bridge stands on it. That pul is of huge importance and used for daily travels in small measures. A stroll to the pul gives a beautiful imagery of Chenani.

Baglihar Dam on River Tawi

On a hilly terrain when we see huge dams and big tunnels we cant stop gushing about the engineering tricks and techniques. The Baglihar dam on river Tawi is again such an engineering marvel in Chenani. To cut a rock on such hilly terrains is an impossible task but the dam which is supplier of water and electricity supply to considerable no. of cities is really applaudable.

The Potato Farms

A very interesting sight that catches fancy of every visitor are the potato farms. These potato farms are another way to savour nature's beauty. The mushrooming out of the potatoes from the grounds on hilly terrains provide really photo capturing scenes.

Billo Ki Powri

This is another landmark in Chenani which is of historical significance. These are the 270 stairs which were being built by the former Chenani rulers for entry and easy access to Batote town.

Tourist Places near Chenani

It is rightly said that beauty lies in the eyes of beholder and all these beautifully enchanting places though may be small in area but they provide the solace and mental peace that we look for. Apart from the religious places to visit in Chenani there are a lot of places nearby Chenani which are worth a visit. These places are at a distance of few kms. and are storehouse of various adventure sports and gateway to the world of auspiciousness.

Udhampur

The district to which Chenani is a tehsil is Udhampur which is the headquarters of the north zone of Army and famous for walnuts and apple production.

Patni Top

It is 40 km from Chenani and attracts a lot of tourists due to its natural beauty. As the name suggests it is located atop a hill and is a must visit. It offers opportunities for mountaineering and winter sports.

These include skiing,para gliding,expeditions,water rafting. A lot of short term courses are also on offer which covers mountaineering and trekking.

Patni Top is at a high altitude and an excellent picnic spot for all the nature lovers who wish to spend some quality time with nature.

Batote Village

A few kms. away from Chenani, the village of Batote provides a sight which is delight to the eyes. It is situated at an altitude of 1560 meters and due to its scenic imagery provides stuff a painter or artist would want. It is surrounded by pine forests and spring waters all around and has become popular as a health resort.Its regarded as a tourist paradise with Chenab gorge and mountain ranges flying high in close proximity. The beauty of the place is captivating and is easily reachable from Chenani.

Sanasar

It is also a few kms.away from Chenani. It is a lush green cup shaped meadow which is surrounded by lofty conifers on all sides on the mountain slopes. The place is famous for the para gliding air sports which in recent times have become quite popular with people.

The people here come to fulfill their adventurous side by camping and hiking and living in base tents provide immense thrill to all. This place is heaven for all those who wish to indulge in adventure sports.

Mantalai

Chenani is regarded as the gateway to the shrine of Mantalai. This shrine is surrounded by the deodars on all the sides. It is located at an altitude of 2000mts. It is regarded as the place where Goddess Parvati married Lord Shiva. The auspiciousness of the place is such that every corner of the place boasts of piousness.

Gauri Kund

As the name suggests its a kund or spring which is named after Goddess Parvati. This place is regarded very sacred by the hindu devotees. It is believed that the Goddess Parvati used to bathe here before offering her prayers at Sudh Mahadev Temple.

Kirimchi Temple

It is a small town located near Mantalai. It is regarded as the nmost sacred sites of the Hindus. This place consists of architectural and natural beauty,contained in the temples known as Pandava temples which were built during eighth -ninth centuries.

How to Reach Chenani

By Rail:
Jammu Tawi is connected to all major cities throughout the country.

By Road:
With the construction of the Chenani tunnel,the place has got better connectivity with the NH-7 ,thereby making the journey by road very safe and easy. A lot of vehicles ferry people from Jammu in small trucks or mini buses with minimal charges.

By Air:
The city's airport is connected by flights from all major cities of India,and from there on road journey is to be covered to reach Chenani.
